The April issue of Trout and Salmon contains an article by Paul Proctor entitled "Trout from the Tributaries - Ten upland gems to have all to yourself this spring". The article is in the main about his experiences on our waters on the Irthing above Chapelburn. It may be of interest to you.

Proposed Anaerobic Digester Plant at Townfoot, Brampton

Brampton and Beyond Energy Ltd intend to site an anaerobic digester plant at Townfoot Industrial Estate. Residents of Brampton attended a meeting on February 6th 2014 to hear BABE's plans which will use slurry from nearby Middle Farm and silage as feed stock for the digester. It will produce approximately 2.6 million litres of digestate per annum of which approximately 2 million litres will need to be stored in the first year the remaining 600,000 litres to be spread on adjacent land between the  months of January and September. Slurry feed stock will be stored beneath ground.

The proposed site has been subject to flooding in the past and gives direct access to the Irthing via Brampton beck. Concern has been expressed that the beck would be polluted in the event of flooding or the catastrophic release of stored disgestate.

Residents concerns included the release of offensive smells from the site affecting adjacent and down wind properties.

This is Eden

Whilst in the process of moving our website and updating reciprocal links I became aware of the "This is Eden" website. Besides a virtual tour of the waterbodies of the Eden catchment This is Eden also a business and service listing by association with your local freshwater asset. Be it a river, wetland or canal. This is project is specifically associated with the Eden and it's tributaries and the goal is to produce a mobile application based on the panoramas plus a book and travelling exhibition to promote the region as a whole.

You can support the project by either adding your business by location along your local river which is a free service or better still purchase a print and keep Paul and his tripod knee deep in freshwater.
